The body of a Dixon woman was recovered after crews found a car in the Rock River.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department said a vehicle had been spotted in the river Tuesday, April 29, 2014 around 7:30 p.m., just two hours after 56-year-old Melva M. Meridith had been reported missing.

Police said when the Dixon Rural Fire Department boated out to reach the submerged vehicle, they found that the car was empty. Crews continued searching the river for the driver and found Melva Meridith’s body.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department said that Meredith had left her Rock River Estates home in her Pontiac Grand Am Tuesday morning around 9 and had not been heard from since.
