Milledgeville, Illinois Police say Snapchat is complicating their investigation into allegations of students at Milledgeville High School sharing sexually explicit photos of another student.

The photo sharing app allows users to take photos and share them with other Snapchat users. The pictures are viewable for a maximum of 10 seconds, then they're gone. Meaning the evidence police are searching for can disappear in seconds.

"Technology is working against us," said Jim Haag, Police Chief of the Milledgeville Police Department.

Haag said they are interviewing multiple students at the school in relation to the case. Some of those students involved are on the school's baseball team.

"We are starting to sort out the facts from fiction. From that, we will determine if it's a criminal matter or a school discipline matter," Haag said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Tim Schurman said Milledgeville Schools will get to the bottom of the case.

"Our district has a very strict policy against bullying, hazing, or any other type of harassment. We take those matters very seriously," Schurman said.

If the allegations are determined criminal, the Milledgeville Police Department will hand the case over to the State Attorney's Office. At that point, those involved could be facing felony charges.
