Dogs have Easter egg hunt of their own

Easter egg hunts aren’t just for kids, as the Adult Easter Egg Hunt taught us, but did you know pets enjoy Easter egg hunts too?

The Humane Society of Scott County held its annual Doggie Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, 2014.

Dogs had the chance to sniff out treats with others their size; they were split in to two groups of large and small dogs. Treats were scattered around at Fejervary Park in Davenport.

Pooches even had the chance to bob for hot dogs and compete in a “Best in Show Bonnet” contest.

"That's what having a pet is all about," says Pam Arndt, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Scott County. "It's really enjoying them and having fun and that's one of the great things about the Easter egg hunt. People are always looking for something to do with their pets that they can take them to and this is a great event and you see the people milling around and talking to each other and the dogs want to go up and meet each other and sniff each other and make new friends so it really is a lot of fun."

Proceeds from the hunt went to benefit the homeless animals cared for by Humane Society of Scott County staff and volunteers.

"If you are looking for a pet, check out your local humane society or your local shelter and see what they have available," says Arndt. "You'll find one that you love."
