A landowner attempted to burn remaining brush piles on a Long Grove property, which set a nearby cornfield on fire, according to the Long Grove Fire Chief Keith Louck.
Crews were called to the fire around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014. It took firefighters about an hour and a half to contain the fire.
Donahue and Eldridge Fire Departments were called to assist.
There were no reported injuries. It is unknown how much land was impacted by the blaze.
Not too long afterward, those same firefighters responded to another fire in McCausland, Iowa.
The Chief of the McCausland Fire Department, Josh Luckritz, said a neighbor was burning when an ember spread to an Iowa DNR ground wildlife refuge. The blaze impacted about three or four acres of that land.
"There's no way to access this with trucks so it's all by foot or by four-wheeler," said Luckritz. Princeton and Long Grove were among assisting fire departments called to the scene. "It's a difficult fire. That's why we had to have so many people out here."
Both fire chiefs warned that wind can change direction and quickly make a brush fire out of control.
