Crews in Port Byron say a home is a total loss after a fire on Monday, March 17th, 2014.

It happened at 23523 80th Avenue outside of Port Byron. It happened just after 3 a.m. Monday. Crews say that no one was home when the fire started. They also say that just one person lives there.

Firefighters say that heavy smoke was coming out of the house when they arrived on scene. Crews from Colona, Hillsdale, and Port Byron all responded. They also had to haul in water  to the area because there are no fire hydrants near the home.

There is no word on how the fire started, but crews could release more information Monday afternoon. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in about an hour.
