Changes coming to Davenport’s riverfront

Davenport leaders are offering a first look at changes planned for the riverfront area after the casino is gone.

City leaders released a new drawing of the potential riverfront, showing a pier on the Mississippi River and much of the casino parking lot replaced with green space.  The Rhythm City Casino should be off Davenport’s riverfront by the summer or fall of 2015.

City leaders and the consulting firm, Hargreaves Associates, could also discuss what to add along the river near Lock and Dam 15.  Levee Improvement Commission members brought up concerns about the new potential Dock Restaurant in February.

Construction in the area of the Dock Restaurant could start this fall. The project could be complete by the fall of 2015.

Davenport leaders now plan to build their new casino near I-74 and I-80. On Wednesday, March 12th, leaders began the application process for state funding for the projects that go around the new casino.

Two meetings covering these topics were planned for Thursday, March 13, 2014.  One begins at noon at the Hotel Blackhawk. The other starts at 6 p.m. at the Freight House Community Room.  Both meetings are open to the public.
