Pesticide spills from tanker in Hancock County crash

A hazardous pesticide was spilled from a tanker when it crashed in Hancock County.

Police said a hazardous pesticide was spilled from a truck tractor and tanker trailer when it crashed in Hancock County.

Illinois State Police said on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 around 6:40 p.m., 43-year-old Jeffery Rushing was driving northbound on the Fountain Green Blacktop near IL. Rt. 9 in Hancock County when he crossed the center lane. The vehicle and trailer rolled into a ditch.

Police said as a result, the trailer developed a small leak, expelling a hazardous pesticide that was being transported in the tanker.

Rushing reportedly refused medical attention. The Macomb Fire Department was called to handle the spill.

Rushing faced charges including improper lane usage and disobeying traffic control device.
