Tuesday, March 11th, 2014, the Rock Island Rotary Club presented a $3,000 check to a Washington Rotary club official to go towards the Washington Tornado Relief Fund.

Last November, Washington, IL was devastated by a tornado that damaged or destroyed between 250-500 buildings and injured about 120 people.

Washington Rotary Club representative, Kristi Howell, accepted the check and said, “we’ve been blessed with literally hundreds of dollars and we’re just trying to see that it goes to the victims how the donors wanted… and hopefully make a change in a person’s life.”

Howell said as far as the money goes, they are putting it toward helping the victims in the future and getting them back on track with a more long-term recovery phase.

Last week, after FEMA announced that Washington didn’t qualify for federal aid, Illinois governor Pat Quinn announced that the state would give $45 million in grants to help Washington rebuild.
