Five workers were in a Milan floral business when the building caught fire.
The fire was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at Bonnett Wholesale Florist, 2119 East 8th Street in Milan, Illinois. The fire started in a side building that contained air conditioning units, according to Assistant Rock Island Fire Chief Todd Fitzpatrick.
Although the side building was fireproof, the blaze spread to the roof of the business’ main building where it caused minor damage. The side building was a total loss. Fitzpatrick said an electrical problem caused the fire.
Five second-shift workers were inside the building when the fire happened. Fitzpatrick said they escaped unharmed and no injuries were reported. He said the business was able to remain open.
