Community bids farewell to fallen Davenport police officer

Sgt. Kevin Marxen’s visitation was Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral home in Davenport.

Previous reports indicate that on Tuesday, February 18, Marxen was jogging along the Centennial Bridge when he suffered an apparent heart attack.

Known as “Rudy,” Sgt. Marxen was a second-shift patrol supervisor and had 20 years of experience serving in more than 750 operations on the department’s Emergency Services Team.   That duty included dignitary protection for a visit from President Barack Obama, as well as coordinating training for the Quad Cities SWAT School.   Sgt. Marxen was awarded the department’s Excellent Duty Bar in June 2013.

His funeral was scheduled for Monday, February 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Davenport. Marxen was 57 years old.
