Water main break closes 12th and Mound intersection

Davenport authorities closed most, and sometimes all, lanes of the intersection of East 12th and Mound streets after a water main break there.

Davenport authorities closed most, and sometimes all, lanes of the intersection of East 12th and Mound streets after a water main break there.

A spokesperson for the city called it a “major water main break.”

Iowa American Water confirmed it was a six-inch valve that broke Wednesday morning, February 19, 2014.

As a result of the break, water service was shut off to ten residences and four businesses near the intersection.  Affected customers are located in the Village of East Davenport, on East 12th Street between Mound and Christy, and in the 1100 block of Mound Street.

Repair crews estimated it would take about eight hours to fix the break, and that a precautionary boil advisory would be necessary after water service was restored.  Customers affected by the possible boil advisory were being notified individually by Iowa American Water.

City crews will also have to repair the road after the water line is fixed.  Motorists should expect at least part, if not all, lanes of the intersection at 12th and Mound streets to be closed to thru traffic.
