The YMCA is planning to build a new early-learning center at the east end of downtown Davenport, Iowa.
City council members got an updated look January 29, 2014, at plans for that center and other development slated for 13 open acres of land on Fourth Street, just north of the Quad City Times building.
YMCA representatives say the new facility will allow students to move more easily from the classroom to outdoor facilities.
The center is part of a multi-million-dollar project that will also eventually include a new YMCA and other developments. The project will be built in three phases over ten years. Groundbreaking for the early learning center was set for the fall of 2014. They hoped to have it open by 2015, and to begin construction on the new YMCA by 2019.
Fundraising was ongoing, and the YMCA reports they've raised $2.5 million for the project so far.
City officials are considering changes to Fourth Street so it could carry two-way traffic instead of the current one-way traffic.
