A local equine therapy program held its first fundraiser to help with expenses during winter months.
According to a spokesperson from the New Kingdom Trailriders, they are the only therapeutic equine assisted program from special-needs individuals and military veterans around the Quad Cities. The Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser was held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 to benefit the program.
“We decided to do the Bowl-a-thon this year to help us with our operational expenses,” said Director of Administration Angie Nelson. “Horse care is a huge part of our operational budget each year and we find the winter months extremely difficult to make ends meet.”
Nelson said this is the 30th year the New Kingdom Trailriders has been in operation. They offer therapeutic horseback riding for military veterans and people with disabilities starting at age 3 all the way up to adults.
About 50 people showed up to Sunday’s event. They also had a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.
