Suspects face additional charges for series of Davenport burglaries

Two of the three men arrested in connection with a series of 30 burglaries in Davenport are facing additional charges.

Two men arrested for a series of Davenport burglaries are facing additional charges.

Previous reports indicate that 20-year-old Joshua Hayes, 19-year-old Shane D. Smeltzer, and another man were accused of committing about 30 commercial burglaries.

Jail records show that the three men were arrested on January 1, 2014 and were each initially charged with two counts of third degree burglary, one count of attempted third degree burglary, and one count of possession of burglary tools.

Davenport Police said more charges were filed against Smeltzer and Hayes on Friday, January 3, 2014. Ten additional charges were issued to each defendant including seven third-degree burglary charges.

Officials say the suspects were committing the burglaries from November 2012 through December 2013.

“The defendants committed burglaries which caused damage and loss of property to the victims in this time frame while acting together as one,” said Captain Dale Sievert from the Davenport Police Department.

All three suspects reportedly pleaded guilty to previous burglary-related convictions and were set to be sentenced on January 16, 2014.
