Police find more than 30 pounds of ecstasy hidden in spare tire

A man busted with $1.6 million worth of ecstasy was found guilty even though he didn’t show up for his trial in Henry County.

A man who was caught transporting packages of ecstasy has been found guilty on drug-related charges in Henry County.

In August of 2010 an officer pulled over Thomas Brennan’s pickup truck for speeding on I-80 in Henry County.  Hidden inside a spare tire, officers discovered 16 packages each weighing a little over two pounds.

Officials said that a forensic scientist analyzed the substance in the packages and found it to be MDMA, which was described as “old school” ecstasy. The drug had a street value fine of about $1.6 million.

An arrest warrant with a $3 million bond was issued for Brennan on August 6, 2013 when he reportedly didn’t appear in court.

A spokesperson from the State’s Attorney’s Office said Brennan failed to appear for the trial on Thursday, December 19, 2013.  Brennan was found guilty of controlled substance trafficking, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance.

“If you run, we’ll just convict you and sentence you in your absence,” said State’s Attorney Terry Patton. “Then when you finally get picked up, you’ll go straight to prison.”

Patton said Brennan will be sentenced even if he doesn’t appear for the sentencing hearing, but that Brennan will only be sentenced on controlled substance trafficking under the “one act-one crime” rule.
