(CNN) — Tea party darling Sen. Rand Paul said Sunday he’s seriously considering a run for president in 2016 — but he also has serious concerns.

“The thought has crossed my mind,” Paul said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I am seriously thinking about it, but I’m also very serious about family considerations.”

Paul was asked about running for higher office on Friday at the Detroit Economic Club. He said his wife controls both available votes in his family. “Both of them are ‘no’ votes right now,” he told the audience.

For now, Paul said, he still has time to make a decision and will weigh how his decision will affect both him and his family.

“I’ll just keep doing the things I want to do and, I think, what the people of Kentucky elected me to do. I just am not ready to make a decision yet,” Paul said.
