A former Moline teacher is under arrest and accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old female student inside Wilson Middle School.

Henry Pawlus, 66, of Coal Valley, is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Police say the alleged incident stems back to January 2010. Pawlus, a long-time  industrial education instructor at the time, retired in May of that year.

Police say the alleged victim, who was 13 at the time, came forward in August of 2013. At that time, an investigation was launched by police and findings taken to the Rock Island County States Attorneys Office.

As of Wednesday night, December 4,2013, Pawlus was in the Rock Island County Jail on $150,000 bond.

Moline School District Superintendent Dr. David Moyer said administrators learned of the arrest Wednesday afternoon.

"The district was deeply saddened to learn of these regrettable allegations and has been fully cooperating with local police throughout the investigation," Moyer said.
