Rep. Tyler Olson says he would stay in the race to become Iowa’s next governor, but he is scaling back campaigning as he and his wife plan to divorce.

In a statement issued Monday, December 2, 2013, Olson said he and his wife “remain friends whose number one priority is the happiness and well being of our children.”

Olson said the couple is separating and working through divorce proceedings.  He said he “felt it necessary to publicly acknowledge the situation” because of his candidacy.

“I am deeply committed to this race for governor,” Olson said.

Olson had announced in July 2013 his intent to seek the governor’s office.  He represents Iowa’s 65th District in the state’s House of Representatives and he is president of Paulson Electric.

Olson said he planned to resume his gubernatorial campaign after the holidays.
