Citizens send holiday cards to military overseas

Spreading holiday cheer, even overseas, people got together at Hy-Vee in Davenport to write cards for members of the U.S. military.

On Saturday, November 30, 2013 a card writing station was set up for people to write cards to military members serving overseas. Hy-Vee and Congressman Dave Loebsack teamed up to provide cards for the event.
“There are a lot of Americans who are very appreciative of course of what our troops are doing for us overseas in particular so they’re willing to take the time out of their day just to write a few lines for those folks,” Loebsack said. “It’s really a great thing to do.”

The cards are distributed through the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

"The Red Cross will be collecting these and they'll be sending them over," Loebsack said. "They just want to hear from home even if it's not their own family."
