Third staffer charged in Dixon music school sex abuse case

A third person faces prosecution in connection with allegations of sexual abuse by an instructor from a music school in Dixon, Illinois.

A third person faces prosecution in connection with allegations of sexual abuse by an instructor from a music school in Dixon, Illinois.

Robert Campbell, 31, is accused of sexual abuse that reportedly happened in the summer of 2012.  The alleged abuse reportedly happened at Viva Performing Arts School in Dixon, where Campbell is a vocal music instructor.  The alleged victim was a 16-year-old boy.

Viva's director of drama, Tim Boles, was later charged with failure to report abuse or neglect.  Police said Boles did not follow legal requirements to contact the Department of Children and Family Services after the victim told Boles about the abuse in the spring of 2013.

Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss said Boles told investigators he did not report the abuse because the student asked him not to tell anyone.

Langloss reported November 21, 2013 that an arrest warrant was issued for Curtis Schmitt in connection with the case.  Schmitt is president of the board of Viva Performing Arts School.

Schmitt was charged after he did not return calls or answer questions from investigators.  Schmitt faces one misdemeanor count of failure to report abuse or neglect.  If he is arrested, bond was set for the charge at $5,000.
