The ribbon was officially cut on the first student housing facility for Black Hawk College.

Dozens gathered Monday, November 18, 2013, to celebrate the opening of The Villas in East Moline.  The apartment complex provides two- and four-bedroom apartment housing for up to 120 Black Hawk students.

"When you look at some of the athletics and some of the kids who were coming from a little bit further off, it was time to be able to have a place for them besides apartment life. so this is bringing them on campus, its giving them the opportunity to be very active in the school," said Rose Mary Boesen of the Black Hawk College Foundation.

The Villas officially opened in September, and by mid-November the units were nearly 70% filled.
