The United Township High School District and three elementary school districts will discuss consolidation on Monday, November 4, 2014.

The elementary school districts considering consolidation are the East Moline, Colona, and Silvis school districts. Carbon Cliff-Barstow and the Hampton School District will not discuss consolidating. Carbon Cliff-Barstow considered consolidating back in July, but they have since dropped out.

Residents in Carbon Cliff, Barstow, and Hampton will see, "a significantly higher tax increase than people in East Moline and Silvis," according to Hampton Superintendent Tom Berg. That's because students from those cities will still go to United Township High School.

If approved, students in East Moline, Colona, and Silvis would stay in the same school district from kindergarten to high school. Currently, the students change school districts once they get into high school.

"There are great things about smaller schools," Silvis Superintendent Ray Bergles said. "But I think you can also retain those things when you retain your identity."

Nothing will be approved at Monday night's meeting. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at Northeast Junior High School in East Moline. Voters will have the final say on consolidation in November of 2014.
