End of pursuit at ISU 11-4-13

Shots were fired during a pursuit involving Ames Police that ended on the campus of Iowa State University.

Police said the pursuit began when an officer attempted a traffic stop on a pickup truck on Beach Avenue just after 10 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013.  Instead of stopping, the truck driver allegedly led police on a pursuit that moved to the ISU campus, where university police joined Ames officers trying to stop the truck.

Witnesses and police said the truck driver drove backwards, crashing into signs and a police vehicle on the ISU campus.

A Facebook post from Iowa State University Police said the suspect vehicle rammed multiple police vehicles before an Ames officer fired his service weapon at the end of the pursuit.

It was unclear how many shots were fired.

The suspect was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.  No other injuries were reported.

University officials said normal activities were resuming on campus by about noon.
