People in Davenport ran for their lives this weekend, but for a good cause.

The "Night of the Running Dead" 5K allowed participants to test their skills against zombies on an obstacle course at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport.

Runners started the race with a flag belt. If they finished with at least one flag, they survived. If not, they became "infected" and turned into a zombie, too.

Race organizers say they estimate around 400 people participated.

"A lot of interesting characters tonight," says Rod Keding, Race Director for Zombie Nation. "It's turning out to be quite the night. We've got a full moon and some of these people I don't think are acting."

A 2K Monster Dash was held beforehand for runners ages 5 to 12.

Part of the proceeds go to the Iowa Special Olympics.
