Wreaths floating down the Mississippi River were part of a ceremony celebrating Hispanic heritage.
According to a spokeswoman from the League of United Latin American Citizens, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 the closing ceremony of National Hispanic Heritage Month was held at LeClaire Park levee in Davenport.
Units from the Rock Island Arsenal were present, along with the Mexican American Veterans Association and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. As a commemoration of the month and to honor all branches of the military, the Mexican American Veterans performed military honors and the U.S. Coast Guard representatives threw floral wreaths onto the Mississippi River.
All veterans, their families, and anyone from the public were invited to attend.
