One lucky girl got to experience what it was like to be a zookeeper for a day.

The winner of the Zookeeper for a Day Contest was 10-year-old Natalie Baumgardner. The contest, held by News 8 and the Niabi Zoo allowed a kid to learn what it takes to work at a zoo.

On Monday, October 14, 2013 Natalie got to help feed the giraffes, clean the stalls, and help with training sessions.

“We were both really excited because we both just love animals so much and wanted to see the behind the scenes of how they’re taken care of,” said Amanda Baumgardner, Natalie’s mom.

Natalie’s hard work for the day paid off in the form of four guest passes for the zoo.
