Liquid soap spilled when semi crashes on I-80

A semi carrying a load of liquid soap overturned on westbound Interstate 80 near the Big X, spilling part of its load on the highway.

A semi carrying a load of liquid soap overturned on westbound Interstate 80 near the Big X, spilling part of its load on the highway.

Witnesses told State Police the rig was westbound on I-80 at mile marker 12, just east of the Big X, when it went into the median, crossed back into the westbound lanes and rolled on its side at about 6 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013.

The truck was carrying packaged liquid soap.

All westbound lanes of I-80 were blocked by the wreck.  Traffic was forced to exit at mile marker 20 and use U.S. 6 as an alternate route, re-entering I-80 at mile marker 8.  The right-hand westbound lane was expected to be reopened before noon.  The left lane was expected to remain closed as crews continued to clear wreckage and liquid soap from the road.

The driver, a 42-year-old man from Chicago, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  Police said the driver was cited for improper lane usage.
