The University of Iowa may be broadening its campus-wide smoking ban to include electronic cigarettes.

Administrators met on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 to discuss the issue of e-cigarettes on the school’s campus.

While e-cigarettes do not produce smoke, just vapor, some board members said it is important to discourage smoking of all kinds, according to the Des Moines Register. Another reason to ban them was distraction. Professor Paul Muhly said that it would be distracting to surrounding students and for him if an e-cigarette was in use.

The Des Moines Register reported that no action was taken, and that the issue would be brought back up at the end of October.
