UPDATE: Police released the identity of the Blue Grass, Iowa couple killed in a weekend motorcycle crash.
The driver, 38-year-old William Rowley and his wife, 48-year-old Deborah Rowley were on a 2000 Harley Davidson FXST when the motorcycle crashed into the rear of a van that was stopped as it waited to make a left turn.
Deborah Rowley died at the scene of the crash. William Rowley died later as he underwent surgery at a local hospital. Police said William Rowley was active duty military, stationed at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Police said neither of them were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The driver and only occupant of the van was not injured.
UPDATE as of 8:07am on Sunday, September 29th, 2013 -- Davenport Police Chief, Don Schaeffer, released an updated statement this morning:
"The driver/rider of the motorcycle passed away during surgery at Genesis East hospital. The names of both victims, driver and passenger on the motorcycle are not being released pending notification of next of kin. The crash is still under investigation."
UPDATE as of 9:26pm on Saturday, September 28th, 2013 -- Davenport Police have just released this statement regarding tonight's crash:
"Davenport Police Department Traffic Crash Investigators are currently processing the scene of a fatality crash at W. River Drive and Blue Grass court. On September 28th, 2013 at 6:24 PM Davenport Police Patrol Units were dispatched to a serious injury crash, involving a van and a motorcycle. Both vehicles were traveling westbound on W. River Drive and the Van stopped to turn south (left) onto Blue Grass Court, when the motorcycle crashed into the rear of the van. The female passenger on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the male driver of the motorcycle is undergoing surgery at Genesis East Hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the van was not injured and meteorological conditions appear to be a factor in the crash. Updates, with further details will be provided as they become available."
UPDATE as of 9:13pm on Saturday, September 28th, 2013 -- Officials have confirmed that at least one person has died as a result of the accident.
They say the accident included a van and a motorcycle.
