Police: Scam targeting customers of local banks and credit unions

Police say various local banks and credit unions have reported their customers getting calls from scammers trying to get their bank card numbers.

Police say various local banks and credit unions have reported their customers getting calls from scammers trying to get their bank card numbers.

The customer will get a call from someone who claims to be from their bank or credit union.  The caller tells the customer their bank card has been deactivated and that they need to enter or say their 16-digit card number and pin number to reactivate the card.

Police say it's a scam.

Bank and credit union customers should not give out personal information, including card, pin and account numbers, over the phone.

If you get a call about your account that seems suspicious, you should contact your bank immediately.  If you believe you are the victim of this scam, you should also contact police.
