Counterfeit money found in circulation in Sterling

Police say suspects used counterfeit money to make purchases and Sterling businesses.

Counterfeit money has been found in the Quad Cities.

According to the Sterling Police Department, in mid-September 2013, counterfeit $10 bills and $20 bills were found at two separate Sterling businesses.

Police are investigating three incidences where they say suspects used the fake bills to make purchases at the businesses on September 18 and 19.

The serial number on the $20 bills is JA50877994A

The serial numbers on the $10 bills are JF34075336A, GK36557909A, II02299159A, and JF27125781A.

The Sterling Police advise that businesses use verification markers on $10 bills and higher. Call the department if you find any counterfeit bills or if you have any questions.
