The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled the Davenport School District owes nearly $6,000 in attorney fees after it appealed a ruling that the district violated the open records law.
Parents of a Davenport student said the district did not comply with their 2010 request for certain documents from the district, so they filed a petition in district court in October of that year.
A judge later found the district violated Iowa’s open records law. No damages were awarded but the court did grant nearly $9,700 in attorney’s fees to the parents.
The district appealed the ruling, and as the appeals in the case continued, more attorney fees accumulated but the court denied requests that those fees, also, be paid.
The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday, September 18, 2013 that the additional $5,903 in attorney fees be paid to attorney David Roston, who represents the parents.
