Two people in Monmouth could face charges after police say over 70 cats were found inside their home.

The cats were discovered on Thursday, September 12, 2013. Police say the animals appear to be healthy, although the bodies of several cats were found in a freezer.

An animal control representative called the situation hoarding and a spokesperson from Warren County’s animal shelter said they are overwhelmed.

“We would like to save as many as possible, again we’re not going to know until we can assess each one of the cats on whether they are going to be adoptable,” said Robbin Sage from Warren County Animal Control. “We’ve been in contact with several rescue groups, we put a plea out.”

No charges have yet been filed, but are expected.
