Rain has been hard to come by in a good month and its quite obvious that the timing couldn’t be any worse. With Monday seeing another day of rain-free conditions the count has made it to 35 days, which places it 4th all-time longest stretch with no measurable rainfall.

Whats interesting about this stat is the timing compared to the other dry runs. Two events came after the harvest while the other occurred in the early portion of winter. So no question, this current event is new for many including farmers who have been overly concern and is desperate for a good rain in the days ahead.

I see two chances heading through this week with the first just around the corner. A slow-moving boundary will drag across the two state starting Tuesday night through Wednesday. Little forcing along this boundary combined with some warm air aloft will allow the coverage for showers and thunderstorms to become widely scattered. Hopefully, we’ll luck out.

If not, the streak continues, but the cooler air will no doubt spill across the entire Midwest as a trough will build in forcing the unseasonable warmth off to the far south and west. Check out the latest trend in daytime highs and overnight lows by late week in the extended forecast!

Wow!! Now that would be more like it. That will follow the arrival of another boundary come later Sunday. If so, the streak will end with 40 straight days, tying for the the second longest in history.

Come on rain!!!
