Police said a woman sent them searching for an imaginary man that she claimed caused a rollover crash.

Des Moines County deputies were sent to a one-car rollover wreck on Highway 61 at 250th Street just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013.   They arrived to find 42-year-old Dawn Delvichio standing outside of the overturned vehicle.

Police said Delvichio reported that the man who was driving the car had run into a nearby field.  Deputies searched the area around the wreckage but were unable to find the man.

They later found out there was no man and that Delvichio, who was actually driving when the wreck happened, lied about the man.

Police said Delvichio was northbound on Highway 61 when her vehicle went into the gravel.  She over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll several times.

Delvichio was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.  When she was released from the hospital, police said Delvichio was arrested and charged with failure to maintain control and interference with official acts.

A statement from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office said more charges are pending.

Online records show Delvichio was released from the Des Moines County Jail after she posted bond.
