Several residents were forced to evacuate their homes after a utility crew struck a gas main on 31st Street near Avenue of the Cities in Moline, Illinois.

A crew working for MidAmerican Energy was reportedly installing an electrical pole when they struck the line at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013.

Ten homes were evacuated in the 1900 block of 31st Street and that block was closed to traffic because of emergency vehicles there.

No businesses on Avenue of the Cities were immediately affected.

It was estimated that it would take the crew about an hour to cap the leak.
