A nonprofit organization held a picnic for its volunteers who work to give those without a home a place to call their own.

Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities held a luncheon at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013. at Veterans Memorial Park in Bettendorf. The organization provided food and raffle prizes at the event.

Executive Director, Kristi Crafton said the Volunteer Appreciation Picnic is the one time each year that Habitat really gets to say thank you to everyone individually.

“We love it, we won’t let them do anything. They try, but we say, ‘no’,” said Crafton. “This is our one way of thanking them and today we’ll provide a nice meal and then we’ll have raffle prizes.”

Crafton said she loves the picnic because she gets a chance to talk to everyone personally and thank them for everything they do.

All the volunteers with the organization are invited to the picnic. That includes not just construction volunteers, but also volunteers with the public relations committee, finance committee, project committees, and more.

Crafton said anywhere between 120 and 150 people were expected at the event.
