Traffic was halted in both directions and not allowed on the Centennial Bridge over the Mississippi River after a suspicious item was reportedly found on the bridge.

All traffic was stopped on the Iowa and Illinois sides of the bridge during afternoon rush hour Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

A Davenport Police Department representative said their department closed the bridge at about 4:45 p.m. because of a suspicious package found.

Davenport Police Major Don Schaeffer said the bridge would remain closed while the bomb squad evaluates the suspicious item.

The bridge reopened just after 5:30 p.m.
