An East Moline woman accused of lying about having cancer to fund her drug habit is now facing criminal charges.
Police said Jennifer L. Pauley, 33, is accused of claiming she had cancer and creating false medical records to swindle her boyfriend out of money to pay for her drug habit.
Pauley is accused of forging the signature of a Quad Cities oncologist on documents she used to convince her boyfriend of three years to help pay her medical bills.
She also allegedly used her boyfriend's name to get more than $10,000 by opening lines of credit and writing bad checks.
Police said Pauley used the money to pay for a variety of controlled substances.
Pauley was charged with three counts of forgery, two counts of wire fraud and one count of identity theft in Rock Island County Circuit Court. She was held in the Rock Island County Jail on a $140,000 bond.
Pauley was appointed a public defender at her preliminary hearing Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013.
