Three distance runners with combined achievements of medaling in the Olympic Games, winning marathons around the country, and holding event-records will be competing in the Bix 7 over the weekend. The trio also took some time to speak to Davenport students.

Bill Rodgers, Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Meb Keflezighi spoke at Trinity Lutheran School in Davenport. They shared running stories to students on Thursday, July 25, 2013.

Since the 1980s, Rodgers and Samuelson have been competing in the Bix 7, and Keflezighi won the Bix 7 both in 2002 and 2009.

Samuelson competed in the marathon at the 1984 Olympics and took home gold. She holds the fastest times for an American woman at the Chicago and Olympic marathons.

Rodgers is a four-time winner of the Boston and New York City marathons. At the 1976 Olympics, he was one of three Americans who competed in the marathon.

At the 2004 Olympics, Keflezighi took home the silver competing in the marathon. Competing again at the 2012 Games, he finished fourth.

Rodgers and Keflezighi will have a book signing on Friday, July 26, 2013. Rodgers, from 9 a.m. – noon, will be signing his book Marathon Man. Keflezighi will be signing his book, Run to Overcome, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
