President Obama makes plans to visit Galesburg

President Barack Obama plans to make a return visit to Galesburg.

Hours after the White House confirmed that President Barack Obama is heading back to the Quad City area, the city of Galesburg, Illinois is already gearing up for the visit. The city will serve as a backdrop for an all too familiar topic.

President Barack Obama plans to make a return visit to Galesburg on Wednesday, July 24.

According to a White House official, he will hold an event on the economy. It was President Obama's first State of the Union speech in 2009, where he gave a shout out to Galesburg.

"These struggles are what I've witnessed for years in places like Elkhart, Indiana, Galesburg, Illinois," said President Obama in the speech
.
However, since his last visit, the city of Galesburg is still struggling.
"I'd hope he can see that his visits before sure haven't helped," said David Pedersen.
Some say Galesburg is the perfect example. The unemployment rate is more than 7-percent there, and poverty is on the rise.
"It seems like every time you turn around, somebody's losing their job," said Carol Trego.
People hope President Obama can look at Galesburg and take back with him what he learns, so the city can get back on it's feet.

"I hope he'll be able to see how most people in America are having to live, because I think a lot of times the politicians don't know how the little people have to live," said Trego.

Further details on the President's travel and events will be made available in coming days.
