High temperatures aren't stopping an 80-year-old tradition in DeWitt, Iowa, this week.
But from the hog show to the carnival rides, there's only one topic of conversation at the Clinton County Fair -- the weather.
"It's really hot, really sticky," said fair-goer Wendy Proctor.
"The heat can be really unbearable," added Zach Hughes as he finished showing his pig Thursday night.
Livestock gets some extra care on days like this, with more spray downs and nearly twice the time at the water trough.
"You mainly have to make sure you water them and spray them down," said Hughes.
"We brought some extra fans, and we water them about every hour to make sure they're staying hydrated," said Samantha Costello while watering her dairy cows.
Moms were also on the lookout for overheated kids, as many enjoyed the carnival rides Thursday evening.
"We make sure we stay in the shade some, get everybody to drink some water, keep everybody with sunscreen," said Proctor.
Organizers said the heat, though, hasn't slowed fair turnout.
"It's a very longstanding tradition. It's a very unique place. There's a lot of history in these barns," said Bob Gannon, board president of the Clinton County Agricultural Society.
The Clinton County Fair runs through Sunday evening, with bull riding, a tractor pull and the demolition derby all scheduled for this weekend.
