Some flooded rivers that affected various Independence Day celebrations are still out of their banks and flood warnings remain in effect.
According to the National Weather Service, the flood stage at the Rock River near Joslin was less than 1 foot above its 12 foot flood stage on Sunday, July 7. The river is expected to continue minor flooding until Monday evening.
Standing at roughly 1 foot above flood stage on Sunday, minor flooding was occurring on the Mississippi River at Muscatine. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Tuesday morning. At 16 feet water affects most of the Riverside Park parking lot.
The Mississippi River at New Boston Lock and Dam 17 was experiencing moderate flooding on Sunday morning. The flood stage is 15 feet. Flooding is forecast to continue and fall below 17 feet Monday morning.
The Mississippi River at Keithsburg is expected to fall below 15.5 feet Monday morning. Moderate flooding was occurring on Sunday and forecast to continue.
The Mississippi River at Gladstone Lock and Dam 18 was steady at 13.1 feet on Sunday morning. The flood stage is 10 feet. Moderate flooding is forecast to continue and levels should fall below 12 feet Tuesday morning.
The Mississippi River at Keokuk Lock and Dam 19 was steady on Sunday morning standing less than 1 foot above flood stage. The river is expected to fall below the 16 foot flood stage Monday morning. At 16 feet, water affects low lying buildings in rural areas and the railroad tracks in Alexandria.
The Mississippi River at Rock Island Lock and Dam 15 was at 15.3 feet on Sunday morning and falling. It is forecast to fall below flood stage Sunday evening.
On Sunday morning the stage on the Mississippi River at Illinois City Lock and Dam 16 was near flood stage and steady. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage Monday morning. At 13 feet water affects residents on Smith’s Island.
The Mississippi River at Gregory landing was falling from 17.9 feet on Sunday morning. Flooding is forecast to continue and is expected to fall below 17 feet Monday evening. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage on Saturday, July 14. At 17 feet water affects the road north of the grain elevator in Gregory landing.
The Mississippi River at Burlington was falling from 17.9 feet on Sunday morning. Moderate flooding was occurring and forecast to continue. The river is expected to fall to 17.4 feet Monday morning.
