Grease clog backs up sewer line in Clinton

A grease clog reportedly caused sewage to be released into the Mississippi River at Clinton, Iowa on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

A grease clog reportedly caused sewage to be released into the Mississippi River at Clinton, Iowa on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports the sewage release was caused grease clogging a sewer line at 450 Oakhurst Street.

The clog allowed sewage from the line to trickle out of a manhole for more than six hours before the line was jetted and the clog removed.

The DNR reports impact on the Mississippi River was minimal.
