Mud that appears to have slid down a neighboring hill closed the pool at Riverside Aquatics Center in Moline.
Employees arrived at about 8 a.m. Monday, June 24 to discover mud in and around the pool in the 3600 block of Fourth Avenue. The mud appeared to have come from a hill next to the facility, and was possibly made worse by heavy rainfall Monday morning. Construction work was also in progress on the neighboring hill.
A worker at the facility said they recorded 3.25 inches of rain there since 2 a.m.
Workers were continuing to assess damage and determine when they could reopen the pool. They estimated the pool would be closed for several days for cleanup.
