Pink Ribbon Classic benefits local charity

Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities was the beneficiary of a fundraising event that got ladies out to test their golf swing.

Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities was the beneficiary of a fundraising event that got ladies out to test their golf swing.

About 200 women participated in the 11th annual Pink Ribbon Classic on Friday, June 21, 2013. The event was hosted by Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois.

About $30,000 was raised from Friday’s tournament, according to the President of the Quad Cities Chapter Executive Women’s Golf Association, Jolene Allen, who also is the director of the Pink Ribbon Classic. She said Gilda’s Club is the beneficiary because the organization supports a wide range of people who battle different types of cancers.

Allen said participants come from the Quad City area as well as far away to join in the event. One woman comes from Detroit each year to participate.

“We have so much fun,” said Allen. “A lot of the teams have participated for many years and we have new teams that have come in.”

About $330,000 has been raised from the Pink Ribbon Classic events in years past, according to Allen.

Stefanini, a global IT outsourcing service was the Title Sponsor of Friday’s event.
