Hundreds of volunteers will be working to improve homes in Davenport.

On Sunday, June 23, 2013 a kickoff ceremony will be held to welcome roughly 500 volunteers who will be working throughout the city.

The volunteers are from Group Mission Trips, a non-profit Christian volunteer home-repair organization. The group, composed of mostly high school students, will be doing minor repairs on and painting over 50 Davenport homes. The project will begin Monday, June 24 and last until Friday, June 28.

Most of the work will be done on the outside of the homes and some will get wheelchair ramps.

A closing ceremony will be held on Friday, June 28 to celebrate the volunteers’ accomplishments. Mayor Gluba along with other Davenport leaders will be present at the ceremonies. Representatives from the Davenport Community School District and Group Mission Trips will be there to answer questions about the projects.

Sunday’s kickoff ceremony will be at 7 p.m. at Smart Intermediate School in Davenport.
