Schools in Iowa and Illinois share the current record for the most pairs of twins in one grade, and another Illinois school is hoping to shatter that record.

The Guinness World Records website says there are 16 pairs of twins in ninth grade at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School in West Des Moines, Iowa and 16 pairs of twins in the 2014 graduating class at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois.  The records were set in January 2012.

Highcrest Middle School in Wilmette, Illinois might be about to break that record, boasting two dozen sets of twins in its fifth-grade class.

The Associated Press reports a set of 11-year-old twins at the school made the discovery, and have submitted an application with Guinness to have the feat acknowledged in the Guinness Book of World Records.

If twins from other schools eventually join the Highcrest kids at their high school, the record could be broken yet again.
