A memorial service was planned for Kathlynn Shepard, the 15-year-old Iowa girl whose body was discovered in the Des Moines River more than two weeks after she and another girl were kidnapped.

Police said Shepard and a 12-year-old girl were abducted after they got off their school bus Monday, May 20, 2013 in Dayton, Iowa.   The 12-year-old managed to escape, but Shepard was not seen since the abduction.

The body of the kidnapping suspect was found later that same day, and police said he committed suicide.

Shepard’s body was found in a log jam in the Des Moines River on Friday, June 7.

An online remembrance of Kathlynn Shepard said a memorial service was planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at Southeast Webster-Grand Middle School in Boxholm, Iowa.
