Sterling man arrested for alleged arson

Police said a viewer who saw him on TV news helped them find and arrest Juan Lugo, who was wanted for allegedly setting a house on fire in Sterling.

Lugo was arrested Monday night, June 3, 2013.

He was held in the Whiteside County Jail.

Police said they were searching for a man accused of setting a fire that significantly damaged a house in Sterling, Illinois.

Firefighters were sent to the home in the 900 block of Dillon Avenue around 6 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

After investigators from the state fire marshal’s office, as well as Sterling police and fire departments, gathered evidence, police obtained an arrest warrant for 51-year-old Juan Lugo of Sterling.

Lugo was wanted for class 2 felony arson in connection with the house fire.
